The UPD General Education (GE) Committee, chaired by Vice Chancellor Benito M. Pacheco, held a 2-day workshop last 10-11 January 2017 at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel “in order to discuss and complement the recommendations of the UPD Ad Hoc Committee to Review the Hybrid GE Program” (Memorandum No. MLT 16-225). The members of the Ad Hoc Committee to Review the UPD Hybrid General Education Program were invited as resource persons.
The GE Committee members reviewed the GE program electives and GE attributes from the UP System Proposed GE Framework. Six (6) common courses emerged from among those that the various colleges and departments proposed to require, namely: Filipino 40, English 10, Communications 3, Kasaysayan 1, Philosophy 1, and Science, Technology and Society.
Based on these six, the committee proposed a core GE program for UPD. It was named the Joint Recommendation by the Ad Hoc Committee to Review the UPD Hybrid General Education Program & the UPD GE Committee. Known simply as Illustration C2, this recommendation was presented to the UPD Executive Committee on 13 February 2017 and during the UPD GE Conference and subsequent UC Meeting on 20 March 2017.
