The General Education Center (GEC) and Batangas State University (BSU) – Pablo Borbon Campus had a collaborative online benchmarking session last 17 April 2024 to discuss how GEC’s expertise and experiences on implementing the UP GE Program may better inform the direction and improvement of BSU – Pablo Borbon Campus’ own GE program.
Initiating the benchmarking session with the GEC Director Dr. Anna Marie Sibayan-Sarmiento and staff was BSU – Pablo Borbon Campus’ new Head of General Education Dr. Sherryl Montalbo, whose General Education Office was only in its second year of operation.
Given the need to refine the operational framework of BSU – Pablo Borbon Campus’ General Education Office, the benchmarking was mostly about the conventions that the GEC has on the processes, offices, and committees involved in developing GE syllabi, consistency and standardization in GE course assessments, delegation and assignment of teaching loads, and methods used for faculty evaluation.
The GEC has also shared relevant materials, documents, and insights that may help with BSU – Pablo Borbon Campus’ aim to “enhance the attainment of goals, outcomes, and competencies of [their] GE courses.”
