Bulacan State University – Sarmiento Campus (BulSU) met with the General Education Center (GEC) for a virtual Benchmarking Activity on the 29th day of October 2025, Wednesday, with the aim of acquiring valuable insights into GEC’s best practices for their continuous goal of delivering quality education for students through their newly created General Education Department.
The benchmarking activity commenced with the Welcome Remarks by the GEC Officer-in-Charge, Prof. Anna Sibayan-Sarmiento, followed by the Overview of the Benchmarking Activity by Dr. Jona Q. Guevara, Program Head of BulSU General Education Department. The faculty members were also introduced, including instructors for various subjects and their Dean, Dr. Mariciel Baligod.
In the event, Dr. Guevara expressed her desire for continuous improvement in the management of their General Education Department and how this activity would help them learn and adopt new practices.
“We know already that General Education – this is the foundation of the academic journey of the students,” said Dr. Guevara. “Think of it as the core curriculum because it shapes our mindsets, sharpens our skills through General Education. No matter what the major is, our goal is not just to teach, but to train minds of our young learners critically and for them to communicate effectively, and become well-rounded and compassionate global citizens.”
The activity continued with the presentation led by the GEC OIC, Prof. Sibayan-Sarmiento, centering on the Three-Fold Task: Coordination, Research, and Incubation, as well as the other administrative responsibilities and their ongoing efforts to assess the GE Program. Questions were answered at the latter part of the presentation to provide a deeper comprehension of GEC functions.
This collaborative meeting demonstrates UPD GEC’s continuous pursuit of attaining the Sustainable Development Goals through its focus on quality education and strengthened partnerships.
