Asst. Prof. Charles Erize P. Ladia
Charles Erize P. Ladia is an Assistant Professor of Speech Communication and Rhetoric at the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts (DSCTA), College of Arts and Letters, University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD). His teaching and research examine the intersections of communication, rhetoric, identities, and politics. He is currently pursuing PhD in Political Science at UPD. His recent publications have appeared in the Deliberative Democracy Digest, Philippine Communication Review, Philippine Political Science Journal, Plaridel, and Child and Youth Services. He is the co-editor of the Philippine Humanities Review Special Issues on “Speech Communication in the Philippines Now” (2024, 2025).
He began his teaching career at UPD by handling the General Education course Communication 3: Practical Speech Fundamentals. He currently teaches Speech 30: Public Speaking and Persuasion, along with courses on political rhetoric, rhetorical theories and method, and qualitative methods in speech communication research. His forthcoming publications explore how the public speaking classroom serves as a pedagogical response to contemporary political and digital crises and as a site for the enactment of students’ citizenship.
He has also held several administrative roles within the DSCTA including being the program head for speech communication, coordinator for student affairs, and coordinator for academic affairs. At the university level, he has served as a member of the University Council Committee on Student Organizations, Activities and Welfare and the Office for Student Ethics.
He currently serves as Director of the General Education Center (GEC), following his service as Program Development Associate from 1–31 July 2026.
