Last July 12 – 14, 2019, the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, headed by Dr. Evangeline C. Amor, commenced its annual OVCAA Operational Planning Workshop at Shercon Resort and Ecology Park, Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas. 78 heads and staff of all the OVCAA units were present during the operational planning.
Vice-Chancellor Amor started the program by giving an overview of the activities for the 3-day operational planning. Aside from the usual presentation of accomplishment reports and SOS projects, this year’s operational planning workshop became more purposeful with the introduction of the Philippine Quality Awards Criteria for Performance Excellence (PQA).
The PQA is a set of organizational performance assessment criteria covering a wide range of key excellence indicators (customer, product & service, operational, human resource, financial). It measures the overall health of an organization. To initiate the workshop, chosen OVCAA staff presented each of the 7 criteria, including the methods to answer them. The 7 criteria are as follows:
- Leadership
- Strategy
- Citizens/Customers
- Measurement, Analysis and Knowledge Management
- Human Resource
- Operations
- Results
The OVCAA units then convened to discuss the PQA checklist and their office’s operational plans for SY 2019-2020. Though the topic was quite heavy, their eyes and camera roll were beyond satisfied with the spectacular sunset that wiped away their stress.
Thereafter, OVCAA heads and staff alike put their wit to test during the Quiz Night. The venue was filled with resounding laughs and shouts as the 8 groups vie to win. At the end, “Eight Bulaga” (Group 8) brought home the bacon (or more appropriately, the pencil case).
Day 2 started with an icebreaker that seemed impossible to complete. After several tries, the cohort finally counted up to 30, while not missing to clap as they count the numbers that are multiples of 7 and contains a 7. Afterwards, the day was dedicated to the units’ presentation of their PQA checklist and operational plans. Since the presentations ended earlier than expected, the heads and staff seized the opportunity to enjoy the huge area brimming with trees, large swimming pools, and other amenities that make the stay truly worthwhile.
To keep the ball rolling, Day 3 started with the OVCAA Wellness Program, led by GEC’s very own, Ms. Janeve Ali. The reports of the Office of the International Linkages Diliman, Office for the Advancement of Teaching, University Library, and Office of the University Registrar’s SOS projects followed. Finally, GEC Director Dr. Venice Oyzon wrapped up the 3-day operational planning workshop with a complete-the-sentence game to consolidate and synthesize the learnings throughout the program.
